The Alpine Loop

Description:
This tour takes us past some of the more notable mines such as the San Juan Chief and the Mickey Breene. As we ascend the rugged Engineer trail we will pass up through the alpine tundra to Oh Point! which provides an incredible 360 degree panorama of the San Juan Mountains. Once over the top we will proceed down the old stage coach route along Henson Creek and the old site of Capitol City and into Lake City where we will do lunch. Then in the afternoon we will wind our way up over Cinnamon Pass and down to Animas Forks, one of the best preserved ghost towns in the area. Time permitting, we will proceed over California, Hurricane and Corkscrew passes on our way back to Ouray. This is a long tour and will cover over 110 miles of trails so be prepared!
